Traditional music group "Korkyt" was organized in November 2015 on the initiative of the honored worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, artistic Director of the Metropolitan Philharmonic Saken Abdrakhmanov. The artistic Director of the group was a cultural figure Sholpan Korganbek.

Already in February 2016, just a few months after the organization of the group, the presentation of "Korkyt" was held with great success during the concert "Gasyrlar tolgauy" ("Voice of centuries"), which was attended by honored worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mayra Ilyasova, famous musician Yedil Khusainov, folk dance Ensemble "Shalkyma", as well as soloists of the folk singing Department of the Philharmonic. 

The group's artistic tasks include popularizing traditional music of Kazakhstan, so Korkyt gathered like-minded musicians who play all Kazakh folk instruments (kobyz, Kyl-kobyz, Narkobyz, dombra, syrnai, muyiz-syrnai, shankobyz, Zhetygen, sherter, dauylpaz, saz syrnai, bas-dombra, sybyzgy, su Agash, tokyldak, etc.).

The uniqueness of the team is that each of its artists owns not one, but several instruments. Thanks to this universalism, Korkyt can perform folk music with any composition. And, of course, the audience reacts warmly, seeing the skill of multi-instrumentalists on the stage. The band's musicians not only play several instruments – but many of them have a rare technique of throat singing.

The ardent desire to attract young people to traditional music leads artists to constantly search for their own individual musical style. The group's repertoire is based on the genres of Kazakh folklore-kui, Terme and Zhyr, performed in the author's treatment of Sholpan Korganbek. Thanks to the skilful arrangement, folk music sounds in a new way, revealing the images and beauty inherent in it as much as possible.

An important place in the repertoire of "Korkyt" is occupied by the works of Sholpan Korganbek herself. As a composer, she was repeatedly nominated at prestigious national competitions: "Astana-Baiterek", "Balalyk Shak dosy", "Elim Menin", "Tauelsizdik tolgauy", " Eldin ERI – Bauyrzhan!"dedicated to the 100th anniversary of B. Momyshuly and others.

Korkyt group is distinguished by the desire to constantly improve their skills – all its members are winners of prestigious national and international music competitions and festivals. The group's collective creativity was noted at the II Interregional folklore and ethnographic festival "Gasyrlar uni", the XX international festival of creative youth "Shabyt", the I Republican competition of ethno-folklore ensembles "KONE Taraz kumbiri".

In order to preserve and promote the spiritual heritage of Kazakhstan, Korkyt held concerts dedicated to the work of outstanding figures and musicians. So, the evening "Araks" was dedicated to the 110th anniversary of honoured art worker of the Kazakh SSR, copyist, composer Zappas Kalambaev, "Аq jeleń" – 165-anniversary of the great figure of Kazakh national culture Tlepbergenova Kazangap, "Uly uly Dalai Deputy" – the Grand Turk the legendary figure of Korkyt, "Alash aristera" – the 100th anniversary of the democratic movement "Alash", "Acarlar tolau" – creativity of the honored worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a prominent dombrist, conductor, composer and Professor Ermurat Usenov, and "Tori iz salon an» – The 60th anniversary of the talented singer Botagoz Daurbaeva etc.

Concert "Uly Dala zhastary" opened a new page in creative activities: the evening introduced the audience with the composers ' music by members of the band – Kuat Nurgazi, of Mercy Kuanysh, by Yerkegali Mahmudan, Dianne Turmanova Get Dauren, the previous recipients of Tohana, Ukita Erniyazova, Aibek of Alimbek and Adiljan Tobiasova. The evening showed that these creative young people perfectly feel the spirit of their time and at the same time honor the glorious traditions of the great steppe.

"Korkyt" is actively touring – the group was given a great honor to represent the national cultural heritage abroad. For 4 years of creative activity "Korkyt" has been on tour in different parts of the world. Among the most significant events are the participation of musicians in the days of culture of Astana in Moscow, the international festival "silk road" in China, the International festival "Music stories from Mongolian, Eurasian, Tianshan steps" in Taiwan, the International exhibition "Kazakhstan through the eyes of world photographers" in the United States, and others.

During the last event, "Korkyt" performed at the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in new York and caused a strong emotional response among the honored guests. Sholpan Korganbek herself says: "We strive to reveal the original Kazakh spirit in music. I believe that performances of Kazakh musicians abroad help to open up a lot about Kazakhstan and its spiritual component to the foreign public. I am very glad that the national flavor of Korkyt's sound attracts the attention of foreign listeners with its unusual and non-standard character." The press also notes: "Any musical material that this group touches is filled with a special energy, becomes a work of art" ("Letters").

Korkyt's active creative activity was marked by certificates and letters of thanks from the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of culture and sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the mayor's Office of Nur Sultan.

In February 2020, Korkyt entered the Guinness Book of records of Kazakhstan, giving the longest concert in the history of Independent Kazakhstan: the ethno-folk ensemble performed 75 works non-stop.
